Hello, CarbonWA friends:
Check out this recent Mother Jones article, “Will Washington Pass the Nation’s First Carbon Tax?” featuring CarbonWA and the upcoming legislative session. As we outlined in our legislative analysis, the path is tough this session, but not impossible. Stay tuned for more on 2018, but first, read on for an update on our fundraising match.
Thanks to the tremendous support of dozens of donors we’ve raised $4300 completing our match well before the end-of-the-month deadline! If you’ve already given to the match — thank you. By completing this match, we can fund our operation through the end of the year. However, to get a running start into next year our board has offered to match an additional $2,500 bringing the new fundraising goal to $6500!
Match Your Donation by Giving Now!
We’ve got hard work ahead of us. Additional resources will help us start the new year laser focused on organizing a lobby day, developing policy, working on legislative bills, maintaining our staff and more.
If you’ve been thinking about giving, now is the time. Who knows — if we complete this round, we might even get a third round of matching out of our board (but don’t tell them that yet!).
Please click here to contribute (or mail your donation to CarbonWA, PO Box 85565, Seattle WA, 98145).
If this is the first message you’ve seen about our matching fundraising drive, read on for a reminder why an investment in CarbonWA is a great way to combat climate change and please consider sharing this message with your friends and family.
The whole CarbonWA team
A gift to CarbonWA isn’t just a gift to another environmental organization: We take risks. We work across party lines. We are pragmatic. We are independently grassroots run and funded. We call it how we see it. We’ve proven we can make an impact.
Thanks to your support, we’ve made progress that most believed wasn’t possible. We put a carbon tax on the ballot in Washington State, securing bipartisan support and over 1.25 million “yes” votes. This year, in part due to our work, four bills putting a price on carbon were introduced into the state legislature (look back at policy work on those bills here and here). We mobilized hundreds of constituents in support and generated media coverage in the Seattle Weekly and more recently in the Washington Wire. And today we continue our work identifying solutions that can serve as a model and unleash a powerful wave of support across the county and the world. Recently we’ve been active within the environmental community doing what we can make sure something on climate goes to the ballot in 2018.
By supporting CarbonWA, you can help to make sure we take every possible shot at climate action.
People Are Counting On Us.
The moral urgency of this work has only grown. 2017 has been a brutal reminder of what’s at stake — from the wildfires that left a smoky haze over much of the state, to the devastation from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. We used to talk about ‘future generations’ counting on us, but it’s become clear that people alive right now are counting on us to succeed.
That’s why we’re asking you to consider making a contribution to CarbonWA, to support action to protect our planet. It’s one of the best investments you can make and we’ll work hard to make every dollar count.
You can donate through our website here, or you can mail your gift to ‘CarbonWA, PO Box 85565, Seattle WA 98145’. Please help us hit our matching goal by November 30.
Let them know you want action on clean energy and climate change.
